The Abandoned Food project came into being when I kept noticing pieces of food, many of which appeared perfectly good on the surface, simply abandoned. I began wondering about the waste of this and thinking of how often food in the United States goes to waste. The answer is staggering - reports vary but 31-40% of the available food in the U.S. gets wasted. None of these photos were staged. Whether on or near a bench, just along a path, or left by the trash, each of these photos reflects these items exactly as they were found. None of these were staged. All of them show a sad waste of food that could have made a difference to someone along the way. These were shot in two cities - Austin and El Paso.
